Artist-in-residence: Goots Ashoona (Inuit)
Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art
Goota Ashoona is a third generation Canadian Inuit artist. For the past half dozen years she has worked alongside her husband, son and nephew at the Ashoona family studio in Yellowknife. The family's artwork can be found in many institutions and galleries that showcase Canadian Inuit art. She performs regularly as a professional throat singer and has been featured on a documentary series on cable television's The Lifetime Channel. During her residence, Ashoona will discuss her career and host workshops and demonstrations for school groups and the public.
Ashoona's visit is made possible by the Ford Foundation.
